The Big Run VFW Post No. 9044 held a POW/MIA remembrance ceremony Saturday, starting off with the Color Guard posting the POW/MIA flag. Gospel music was played, and the audience listened to excerpts from John McCain's account of being a POW. Everyone in attendance joined in prayer to pay tribute to the American soldiers who had to suffer as POWs, as well as and the many American soldiers whose whereabouts are still unknown. Above, Jim Uplinger, Jefferson County Veterans’ Honor Guard, lights a candle at the “ceremonial table,” while Jim Soliday (at podium), VFW member, gives a speech about the many American soldiers who remain unaccounted for, and (from left) Gene McKee, VFW member; Joe Buterbaugh, Big Run mayor; and Jim Pallone, VFW Post Commander, look on.
