PUNXSUTAWNEY â It's been a busy month for Scott Anthony, owner of Fox's Pizza Den in Punxsutawney.
First, he was named Man of the Year at the Groundhog Banquet on Feb. 1, and now, the National Restaurant Association (NRA) has appointed him to the first Pizza Industry Council.
Anthony said the NRA is a non-profit organization that represents restaurants across the country and educates the public regarding food safety.
The 14 members will serve as the primary advocate for the pizza industry, he said.
"Restaurant professionals selected of various sizes of the industry will serve as the steering committee of the NRA Pizza Council for a two-year term of office," Anthony said.
Chairperson Marla Topliff, CEO of Rosatiâs Pizza, has selected Anthony to sit on the steering committee of the first Pizza Industry Council.
Anthony will work with top pizza executives around the country who represent different size stores of the pizza industry.
Anthony said, âThe vision of the council is to increase the success rate of pizzerias. Our initial meeting held at NRA offices in Chicago was very productive."
The Pizza Industry Council consists of 70,000 pizzerias generating nearly $39 billion in revenue, he said.
"Future undertakings of the council will be to make readily available the operational tools and resources necessary to improve the performance of pizzerias and the quality of life of the operator," Anthony said, adding that the councilâs plan includes supplying educational venues, leadership networking and âchain-likeâ assets that all pizzeria operations may take advantage of.
