Punxsutawney may not be considered a high-crime area, and members of the community don't particularly need to worry about their safety when they go out, even at night. But community members do have the opportunity to participate in an event to raise awareness of the organizations who are working to make sure that the reputation of the community stays that way.

The Punxsutawney Borough Police Department's National Night Out (NNO) will be held this Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 3 to 9 p.m. in Barclay Square. Punxsutawney Borough Police Chief Matt Conrad said he’d like to see NNO turn into a major event in Punxsutawney.

NNO is a community-police awareness event held the first Tuesday of every August in the United States.

"We have about 30 organizations/activities for the kids on this night," Conrad said, adding that there will be a bounce house and dunking booth, meaning some of the borough police officers and school and public officials will be in the booth for your dunking pleasure.
