Nancy North Pitts, 78

Nancy North Pitts, 78, of Brookville, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at home.

She was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Brookville, a daughter of the late Robert C. North and Aileen Fulton North.

On Oct. 20, 1955, she married Richard J. Pitts, who survives.

She taught the third grade in the Punxsutawney Area School District for 22 years at Mapleview School, retiring in 1993.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 65 years; a 1952 graduate from Brookville Area High School who then attended Indiana College and Penn State University.

She graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Clarion College and later obtained her master's degree.

She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and the Pincecrest Country Club.

Mrs. Pitts was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her husband, surviving relatives include children Lindsay Hanna (William Douglas) of Brookville, Pa., Richard C. Pitts (Crystal) of Altoona, Pa., and Susan Osborne (Rodney) of Brookville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Pitts Shriver; two brothers, Robert C. North Jr. and John A. North; and a sister, Molly North Baughman.

A private service will be held by the family today at the McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville.

Interment will be at Brookville Cemetery in Brookville.
