Mrs. Sarah Catherine Burkett Chipps, 72

Mrs. Sarah Catherine Burkett Chipps, 72, South Boston, Va., died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

She was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late Leonard J. Burkett and Ruth Mae (Stormer) Burkett.

Mrs. Chipps was married to Murray Steve Chipps Sr., who survives.

She was of the Baptist faith and was project officer for Southside Community Services.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kelly Ahrean of South Boston; a son, Murray Steve Chipps Jr., of South Boston; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her dog, Bowzer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Mark Chipps Sr.

Friends will be received from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at the Powell Funeral Home Inc., South Boston, Va.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
