Monika Young, 67, of Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at home.

She was born May 17, 1946, in Aidenbach, Germany, a daughter of the late George C. Sparks and Helene (Tschache) Sparks, who survives.

On Oct. 1, 1963, she married Denny Young. He preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 2013.

Monika was a member of the Punxsutawney Eagles Auxiliary, having served as Past Madame President.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by three daughters, Peg Young and husband David Oberg, Tabitha Mahan and Rebecca Reddinger and husband Dan, all of Punxsutawney; and one son, Robert Young of Emporium; nine grandchildren, Jamie Young, Jessica Oberg, Allan, Brenda and Christina Mahan, Cameron and Drew Young, Stephanie Hook and husband Steven and Dan Reddinger, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Josh Troup, Jr. and Parker Reddinger; and two sisters, Georgine Merz of Carlton, Ore., and JoAnn Sparks of The Dalles, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband; one brother, George Sparks; and a nephew, Calvin Young.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
