Punxsy's 9- and 10-year-old softball All-Stars opened their state tournament on Wednesday evening against West Point. Punxsy fell to the formidable West Point by a final score of 4-0. Brianna Hoover (pictured above) and Kendal Johnston had hits for Punxsy, and Johnston also pitched a solid game, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. "I'm proud of the girls," said Punxsy coach Brad Gigliotti. "West Point is traditionally one of the tougher programs in the state. We have two more, and we're assuming we have to win both to make the finals, so that's what we'll try to do." The young ladies from Punxsy will return to action tonight with a 7 p.m. contest against Newberry in Western Pool Play.
