Mildred Bellas, 94

Mildred Bellas, 94, formerly of Rockland Avenue, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Wellington Heights.

She was born May 7, 1917, in Idamar, a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Cicaniak) Kutney.  

She was the last surviving member of her family.

Nov. 25, 1939, she married Dominick Joseph Bellas, who preceded her in death July 6, 1990.

They were married for 50 years.

She was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church.

Mrs. Bellas enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Evelyn Krug and husband Richard of Belleville, Mich., and Mary Dinger and husband Jim of Punxsutawney; Mark Vassanelli, who was like a son to her, as she raised him after his own mother died when he was three years old; seven grandchildren, Robert Bellas and wife Sandy, Paul Bellas and wife Kaori, Kenneth Krug and wife Michelle, Kevin Krug and wife Gina, Karen White and husband Barry, Leslie Rylke and husband, Dr. Jonathan Friedman, and Renee Parr and husband Stephen; 15 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jonathan Krug, Josh and Joseph Krug, Sarah and Kristen White, Amy and Kate Bellas, Chloe and Claire Bellas, Maya and Tess Rylke-Friedman, and Benjamin, Nathan and Gabriel Parr.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Bellas, Helen Bublinec and Mary Shaffer; and five brothers, John, Michael, George, Andrew and Steven Kutney.

There will be no visitation.  

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. Joseph Riccardo as celebrant.

Interment will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Ebensburg.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Shumaker Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Bellas' memory to the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry.
