MESORACO WATCH

June 4, 2011

Devin Mesoraco, a Punxsutawney native and current member of the Class AAA Louisville Bats, became best friends with doubles this week.

Mesoraco had one of his best weeks this season, as he raised his batting average to .315 with an 8-for-16 week that included five doubles and two three-hit games.

The Cincinnati Reds prospect capped the week Friday with a 3-for-3 performance that included three clutch extra-base hits and a career-tying five RBIs. He also drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.

In his first two at-bats, Mesoraco hit a pair of RBI doubles. In his fourth plate appearance of the game, he bashed a three-run home run. All three hits came with two outs.

The catcher reached base during every game this week. He was 1-for-4 with a double and a run Sunday before he singled twice, doubled once, had two RBIs and scored a run during a 3-for-4 performance Tuesday. Wednesday, Mesoraco was 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout before he went 0-for-2 with two walks and two Ks Thursday.

With the five-double week, Mesoraco upped his double total on the season to 18, which is tied for best on the team with Zack Cozart. Mesoraco and Cozart are tied for third in the International League behind Charlotte's Jim Gallagher (22) and Durham's Russ Canzler (19) in doubles.

Mesoraco and Cozart combined for seven hits, seven RBIs and three doubles during the Bats' 10-4 victory at home over West Division-leading Columbus (36-19) Friday.

The Bats improved to 32-23 on the season with a 6-1 week and are now four games behind the Clippers.

Louisville will carry its five-game winning streak into a home game against Columbus tonight. The Bats will then head on the road for 11 games in 10 days Sunday through Tuesday, June 14.
