Punxsutawney Area High School baseball standout Devin Mesoraco completed a successful week with a 4-for-5 game Friday with the Cincinnati Reds' Class AAA affiliate Louisville Bats.
Mesoraco improved his batting average to .295 on the season following a 7-for-23 (.304) week. During the week, he had three extra-base hits, including his first home run since the first week of the season.
Saturday, he was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks.
Monday, Mesoraco was the only starter to go without a hit during the Bats' 18-inning marathon loss to Rochester, which won 7-6. He finished 0-for-8 with two strikeouts, but caught a runner who attempted to steal second base in the game.
Mesoraco recovered Wednesday when he hit a solo home run during three at-bats and walked once. He followed that game with an 0-for-4 performance that included a walk and a strikeout Thursday.
His finest game of the week came Friday, when he doubled twice, singled twice, scored two runs and drove in a run. Louisville won that game over Buffalo, 15-7, thanks to a seven-run first inning. Mesoraco doubled and scored during that inning.
The catcher now has four home runs, 15 RBIs, nine doubles and has scored 15 times. His OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) is .890.
Mesoraco has also drawn a team-best 17 walks and is fourth on the squad in hits (31), total bases (52) and on-base percentage (.395).
The Bats improved to 21-14 on the season after a 5-2 week last Saturday through Friday. Louisville trails the Columbus Clippers (25-9) by 4 1/2-games in the International League's West Division.
The Bats will host Buffalo (15-21) for three more games today through Monday before they head on a eight-game road trip in Durham (22-14) and Norfolk (13-22).View more articles in:
