PITTSBURGH — Devin Mesoraco's homecoming party was almost spoiled Friday night when Reds' catcher Ramon Hernandez was granted the start.
Several local fans of Mesoraco made the trip to Pittsburgh in hopes of seeing their favorite Major Leaguer in person.
And late in the game, their wish was granted when Mesoraco came in to relieve Hernandez.
Mike Leake had pinch-run for Hernandez in the eighth inning.
Mesoraco's fans didn't get to see him even take a swing at a live pitch.
In fact, he was left standing in the on-deck circle in the ninth inning.
They were able to see a good game, though, as the Reds scored a run in the top of the ninth to tie it before the Pirates walked off on a one-out single by Ryan Ludwick.
Mesoraco and the Reds will finish a three-game series in Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m. tonight and 1:35 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
