MESORACO WATCH

August 27, 2011

Well, Devin Mesoraco fans, decision-day is less than a week away for the Cincinnati Reds.

The question remains whether Mesoraco will be called up when the rosters expand Thursday, or will he spend more time with the AAA-affiliate Louisville Bats polishing his game?

One encouraging sign was reported Thursday night by Danny Knobler of cbssports.com: Reds' catcher Ramon Hernandez was placed on waivers Thursday.

Unfortunately, another report Friday night by Sports Illustrated's John Heyman said that Hernandez was, in fact, claimed off waivers, but the Reds pulled the waiver offer back off the table.

If Hernandez would have been dealt, Mesoraco surely would have been called up to the Major League club.

The Hernandez deal would have made room for Mesoraco on the 40-man roster, but for now, he gets to continue to play the waiting game.

While Mesoraco waits patiently for his fate to be decided, all he can do is go to bat for the Bats each game.

This week, he made it nearly impossible for those in the front office in Cincinnati to ignore the talent they have waiting at the catcher position in Louisville.

Mesoraco's week was highlighted by his play Tuesday in what he called "the best game of my life," as repoted by Daniel Allar of courier-journal.com.

Mesoraco went 4-for-4 with two home runs and drove in five runs, leading the Bats to a 10-3 victory over the Toledo Mudhens.

Mesoraco came to the plate in the seventh inning just a triple shy of the cycle, but connected on a two-run blast, instead.

Daniel Dorn followed with a solo home run to cap the Bats' six-run seventh.

Last Saturday, Mesoraco went 1-for-3, reached base two times via walk and scored two runs.

He also had one hit each night in games Wednesday and Thursday and scored a run for the Bats in each game.
