Punxsutawney native Devin Mesoraco returned to form and bumped his 2011 average back above .300 after he hit .421 this week.
Mesoraco, a 2007 first-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds, batted 8-for-19 during six games with the Class AAA Louisville Bats this week. He improved his average from .256 to .306 following the successful week.
Saturday, he started the week with a 1-for-3 game that included a double and two strikeouts. He followed that game up with his first of three multi-hit performances this week.
Monday, the slugger was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk.
After a 0-for-4 game Tuesday, he was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored and three walks during a doubleheader Thursday.
The catcher completed the week with a 1-for-4 game Friday that included a run and two strikeouts.
Through 22 games, Mesoraco is second on the Bats in average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. He is also tied for third on the team with three home runs and 11 RBIs.
A 3-2 loss to Durham (12-11) Friday snapped the Bats' three-game winning streak. Louisville (15-7) remains in second place and is 1 1/2-games behind West Division-leading Columbus (16-5) in the International League.
The Bats will play a four-game series at home against Norfolk (7-15) today through Tuesday before they have Wednesday off. That day off will be followed by a seven-game road stand in Buffalo (10-13) and Rochester (9-12).View more articles in:
