Melvin Leroy Hoffman, 91

Melvin Leroy Hoffman, 91, Coolspring, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

He was born April 15, 1921, in Coolspring, a son of Lee Hoffman and Icie Hinderliter Hoffman.

In 1992, he married Ruth Elizabeth Jones, who survives.

Mr. Hoffman worked as a coal miner for R&P Coal Co.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 14th Infantry, 71st Division, during World War II.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include three daughters and three sons, Lavonne Caylor (Lee) of Coolspring, Donald
Hoffman (Donna) of Coolspring, Larry Hoffman (Barbara) of North Tonawanda, N.Y., Janice Smith (Reed) of North Tonawanda, N.Y., Deborah Compton of Punxsutawney and Craig Hoffman of Coolspring; a brother,
Eugene Hoffman of Meadville, Pa.; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther, who preceded him in death in September of 1991; and a son, Robert “Opie” Hoffman, who preceded him in death in January of
1998.

Friends will be received at the time of the service, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the McKinney Funeral
Home, Brookville.

Interment will be at the Coolspring Cemetery in Oliver Township, Jefferson County.
