Maxine W. Demko, 87

Maxine W. Demko, 87, of Punxsutawney and Cortland, Ohio, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Clarence and Edna (Shovestall) Mowrey.

More than 70 years ago, she became the wife of John Demko, who survives.

Maxine and her husband returned to the Punxsutawney area in 1985 and built a summer home, which they enjoyed very much.

Maxine also enjoyed working outside with her flowers and playing Bingo.

In addition to her husband, surviving relatives include a daughter, Margaret “Maggie” Vanderpool and husband Raymond of Cortland, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Vanderpool.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John M. Demko; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Demko.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 1 p.m. today at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney, with Father Simeon Sibenick officiating.
