Max L. Moore, 86, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at his home.

He was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Everett J. and Cosie (Smith) Moore.

He was married to Eleanor "Jane" Moore, who preceded him in death May 18, 2009.

Mr. Moore was co-owner and operator of Everett Moore Coal Company. He was a member of the Moose and the Punxsutawney Country Club.

He loved golfing, tinkering with old lawn mowers, tractors and dozers. He was known for his daily trips into town with his dog Snickers and loved watching reality shows and "Judge Judy."

His greatest love was his children and grandchildren and spending time with them. He was a loving, generous and giving man who would help anyone out.

He will be greatly missed.

Surviving relatives include a son, Dave Moore of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Linda Blair and husband Todd and Diane Shaffer and husband Robert, all of Punxsutawney; a brother, Glenn "Knobby" Moore of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren, Shannon Dinger, Tricia Zarfoss, Brandi Peace, Amy Shaffer and Matthew Shaffer; six great-grandchildren, Dylan Steele, Evan Dinger, Zachery Dinger, Cameron Peace, Noah Clossin and Isabel Zarfoss; a daughter-in-law, Diane Moore of Punxsutawney; and special friends Joseph Kosloski, Ann Repine, Jerry Harper and Nicole Reid.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Moore; a sister; Florence Haines; and a brother, John Moore.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the funeral home with the Rev. Butch Derr officiating.

Interment is private.
