Mary Merry DeJohn, 90

Mary Merry DeJohn, 90, Sykesville, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Christ the King Manor after a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Eriton, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Merry) Cowan.

She married Merino DeJohn, who preceded her in death in 2002.

A graduate of Sykesville High, Mrs. DeJohn was a homemaker.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sykesville. She enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Atlanta Braves, as well as walking, playing cards and bingo.

Surviving relatives include a son, Richard DeJohn and wife Sue of Sykesville;a sister, Jean DeJohn of Sykesville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, James and Robert Cowan; and three sisters, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Platter, Jesse Hafner and Margaret Kelly.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home, Sykesville, and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at the funeral home.

 A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at the funeral home with the Rev. Debra Rogosky officiating.

Interment will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville.
