Mary M. Shields, 92

Mary M. Shields, 92, of Brookville, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

She was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Rosehill, Scotland, a daughter of the late Thomas Frew and Elizabeth Reid.

Mrs. Shields was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Buffalo, N.Y.

She was married on Dec. 12, 1942, to H. Glenn Shields, who preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 2001.

Mrs. Shields was a member of the Brookville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She was active in ministry all her life, leading women’s groups and mentoring young women.

She was a great cook and baker, and she enjoyed making quilts for her family and friends.

Surviving relatives include a daughter and her husband, Mrs. John (Mary Jane) Waclo of Jeanette; three sons, Glenn R. and Millie Shields of Summerville, David F. Shields of Summerville and Stephen D. and Laurel Shields of Curwensville, Pa.; a sister, Annie Shatz of Carson City, Nev.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Francis; and four brothers; Bob, John, Mathew and Thomas.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at the Furlong Funeral Home, corner of Broad Street and First Avenue, Summerville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the Brookville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church with the Rev. Stephen D. Shields officiating.

Interment will be at Ohl Cemetery, Beaver Township, Jefferson County.
