Marna B. Elkin, 75

Marna B. Elkin, 75, Smicksburg, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center, Punxsutawney.

She was born Sept. 11, 1935, in Findlay, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry and Marie (Sterling) Altman.
Sept. 28, 1957, she married her husband of 53 years, Emory Elkin, who survives.

Mrs. Elkin moved to Smicksburg in 1976, when she and her husband put their love of wood and crafting together and started their own business, EM & M Crafts. For more than 20 years, they served the specialty shops of Smicksburg with their country furniture creations and novelty wood crafts.

She was also a veracious reader. Books were her passion, and she had an extensive library that she was always willing to share.

First and foremost, family was paramount in Mrs. Elkin’s life, and her husband, children and grandchildren were her life’s greatest joy. She will long be remembered for her caring spirit and compassion and her unwavering love for her family.

In addition to her husband, surviving relatives include three sons, Gary Elkin of Findlay, Steven Elkin and wife Mary of Irwin, and Gregory Elkin and wife Melanie of Punxsutawney; a brother, Wilbur Altman of Forstoria, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and James Altman; and a sister, Bonnie Alborn.

Relatives and friends may visit from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home Inc., 125 East Main Street, Dayton.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at the funeral home with the Rev. Laurie Milligan officiating.

Interment will follow at Dayton Glade Run Cemetery, Dayton.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund, 81 Hillcrest Drive, Punxsutawney, Pa. 15767.
