Marguerite E. (Pearce) Smith, 95

Marguerite E. (Pearce) Smith, 95, of Smithport, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at the Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center in Punxsutawney.

The daughter of George C. and Grace (Stiver) Pearce, she was born on March 28, 1917, in Banks Township, Indiana County.

Marguerite was a member of the Smithport Wesleyan Methodist Church, where she had actively served her church in many capacities, including as a Sunday School teacher, as well as being involved with the Missionary Society for more than 30 years.

She thoroughly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Two of her favorite pastimes were flower and vegetable gardening.

Marguerite married her late husband, William “Howard” Smith, on April 14, 1934.

Surviving relatives include two children, Pastor Allen T. Smith and wife Nancy of Emlenton, Pa., and Linda L. Meckley and husband Robert of Smithport, Pa.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and
two great-great-grandchildren.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, on Sept. 22, 1996; her daughter, Mona Marie Smith; her grandson, Christopher Smith; three brothers; and three sisters.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, Pa., where a 1:30 p.m. funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, with the Rev. Greg Keoppel officiating.

Interment will be at the Burnside Cemetery, Burnside, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be forwarded to the Smithport Wesleyan Methodist Church.
