Margie Astorino, 63

Margie Astorino, 63, Walston, died Monday, Feb.27, 2012, at Mulberry Square Eldercare and Rehabilitation Center in Punxsutawney, after a 21-year, courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 26, 1948, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Ross and Antoinette (Belott) Astorino.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Walston, as well as a member of the Walston Club.

Ms. Astorino graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1966. She was a 1970 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and also performed post-graduate studies at Towson University, Maryland, and subsequently worked as a kindergarten teacher.

She was a loving caregiver for her father, who passed away in 2001, and most recently for her mother, who passed away Dec. 20, 2011.

One of Ms. Astorino’s special loves was encouraging, observing, teaching and participating in her nieces and nephews lives and journeys, and they in turn had a special love for her.

Surviving relatives include two brothers, John Astorino and wife Marge of Franklin, and Ron Astorino and wife Doreen of DuBois; three sisters, Janet Marchioni and husband Louis of Mechanicsburg, Mary Lou Astorino and husband Andrew Fedore of Johnstown, and Jeannie Astorino and husband Bo Smith of Cochranville; nine nieces and nephews, Holly Ghering and husband John, Jennifer Galey and husband Steve, Susan Byers and husband Mark, Joseph Astorino, Michael Astorino, Seth Astorino, Jordan Astorino and wife Olivia, Toni Marie Marchioni and Max Fedore; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.

At Ms. Astorino’s request, there will be no viewing or visitation.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at St. Anthony Church in Walston with Rev. Msgr. Joseph Riccardo as celebrant.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Memorial donations may be made in Ms. Astorino’s memory to Senior Assist, 105 North Findley St., Punxsutawney, Pa. 15767.
