Margaret "Peg" Edretta Chamberlain Couser, 99, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011.

She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in Punxsutawney, and lived a long and wonderful life.

She was married to her husband of 60 years, Ralph C. Couser, who preceded her in death in 1995.

She was also an active member of the Friends of the Library; a charter member of the Historical Association; and enjoyed playing bridge with many of her friends throughout the years.

As a parent, Mrs. Couser was involved with the Girl Scouts and Brownies, was a troop leader and was a den mother for Boy Scouts.

She was also very active in the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney, where she was a member and deacon; co-chairperson for church funeral dinners; Bible School teacher; and Sunday School teacher for grades three to adult.

Her favorite time as a teacher was the years she spent teaching teenage classes at the church and the wonderful kids that she met and interacted with there.

Mrs. Couser was also a talented artist and enjoyed doing handcrafts and working on crossword puzzles, passions that she passed on to her grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include two children, Dyrk J. Couser and wife Collie of Punxsutawney, and Caryn I. Stiteler of Rochester, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Kelli Tolle and husband Tony, Cami Ludwig and husband Fred, Marci Crymes and husband Bryan, Todd Stiteler and wife Tricia, Brendan Couser and wife Sherry, and Valri Acosta and husband John; and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Stiteler, March 5, 2005; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Couser, Nov. 14, 2009.

A memorial service will be scheduled for spring.
