M. Maxine Novak, 78

M. Maxine Novak, 78, Punxsutawney, formerly of Wenonah, N.J., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born on July 13, 1934, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Earl and Nellie (Hobba) Payne.

She was married to Victor S. Novak, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Novak was an avid bowler, donated to many charities and loved entertaining and spending time with her family.

She was retired from the Bell Telephone company.

Surviving relatives include a sister, Theola Amundson of Punxsutawney; two brothers, Kenneth Payne of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and John Payne of Miami, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Loretta Payne of Punxsutawney.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alva Hunter; and two brothers, William and Jim Payne.

Services are private and under the direction of the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
