M. Gertrude Eggleston, 88

M. Gertrude Eggleston, 88, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Mahoning Riverside Manor in Punxsutawney.

She was born April 22, 1922, in Brookville, a daughter of the late Bernard Henry and Clare (Rowan) Henry.

Sept. 15, 1947, she married Joseph Eggleston, who preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1991.

Mrs. Eggleston was a parishioner at Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church.

She was a member of the Homemakers Club; Catholic Daughters of America; Rosary Altar Society; and the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

Surviving relatives include a son, Bernard Joseph Eggleston and wife Debbie of Irwin; four daughters, Barbara Jean Balint and husband Francis of Fredicksburg, Va., Judy Ann Gianvito of Punxsutawney; Mary Jo Lambert and husband George of Punxsutawney, and Ellen Clare Overly and husband J.R. of Punxsutawney; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Thomas Henry, William Henry, Bink Henry, James Henry and Gene Henry; and six sisters, Phyllis Henry, Hope Kordes, Rene Henry, Jude Kleist, Milly Work and Bernadette Henry.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Deeley Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Riccardo officiating.

Place of interment is the Calvary Cemetery in Punxsutawney.

The family has suggested that memorials be made to the Catholic Daughters of America or the Rosary Altar Society in Mrs. Eggleston’s name.
