A long-standing tradition: SS.C.D. Lawn Festival returns to town this weekend

PUNXSUTAWNEY — For 74 years, the Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church has followed a tradition that has brought not only members of the parish together but also members of the community — the Annual SS.C.D. lawn festival.

A fixture of the community since 1886, the church is rich with history. The lawn festival began in 1939, when the Catholic Daughters of the Americas ladies wanted to have a social for the parish,
so they had a strawberry shortcake festival out on the lawn. That festival marked the beginning of what would soon be known as the SS.C.D. Lawn Festival, an event that continues to this day.
