Lawrence (Larry) White, 86

May 30, 2014

Lawrence (Larry) White, 86, died peacefully at his home on May 16, 2014, in St. Marys, Georgia, from effects of a major stroke suffered two weeks earlier.

He was born in Indiana, Pa., the son of Foster J. and Elda (Reeger) White, and grew up in Canoe Ridge and Juneau.

He graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1947 and attended two years at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana.

He married Nelda Faye Randall, then took up residence on a farm above Juneau.

In addition to farming, he repaired appliances for his brother Forrest and worked other jobs in the Punxsy area.

He and Nelda had three daughters, Joan, Vickie and Gail, who attended the local public schools.

Later, the family moved to the St. Louis area, and he worked as a draftsman for Caterpillar.

Later, he owned and operated a metals fabrication company in Morton, Illinois. He and his second wife, Ann, moved to St. Marys, Georgia, in 1984.

He worked to retirement as a draftsman at the St. Marys paper plant and later took maintenance and janitorial care of the Baptist church, while also working for a local plumbing company.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest D. and Donald J. White, both of Juneau.

Surviving siblings include Elda Vee Baun of Crescent, Pa.; Eugene W. White, Kay Neiswonger and Juanita Defelice, all of Punxsutawney; and Lois Campbell of Elizabethton, Tennessee.

A final memorial service will be held late in June, to be attended by his many friends and family of the St. Marys area.
