Lawrence E. Reitz, 80

Lawrence E. Reitz, 80, Route 36, Brookville, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at home.

He was born March 26, 1934, in Brookville, a son of George I. Reitz and Althea Dempsey Reitz.

On Sept. 7, 1956, in Brookville, he married Hazel I. Shaffer, who survives.

While still in high school, Lawrence began working for the business George I. Reitz and Sons in Brookville, which his father had founded in 1944.

He continued to work for that same company until his retirement in
1996.

He was a lifetime member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville.

Lawrence worked for the Boy Scouts of America for more than 50 years on the Local, State and National Levels.

He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Hobah Lodge No. 276 F&AM in
Brookville, was a member of many community organizations, and in 1985, he received Brookville’s Dr. Walter Dick Award.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two sons, Alan Reitz (Betsy) of Brookville and Brian Reitz (Bobbi) of Sigel; two daughters, Carol Hetrick (Tim) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Diane Hollins (Darryl) of Salem, Virginia; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alton G. Reitz; and one sister, Lenora R. Weaver.

Visitation hours will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, from 1 to 9 p.m. at McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville, and on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville, officiated by
the Rev. Timothy McConville and the Rev. Kevin Bockus.

A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery (Windy Hill) in Rose Township, Jefferson County.
