Lauren R. "Brownie" Lydic Sr., 90, Lake City, died Friday Dec. 30, 2011, at UPMC Hamot.
He was born Oct. 28, 1921, in Prattsville, a son of the late Oscar and Mary (Gould) Lydic.
For more than 60 years, he was married to Sara Hollenbaugh Lydic, who preceded him in death April 3, 2008.
As America was at war, Mr. Lydic was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and later deployed to the South Pacific, where he was stationed in Okinawa with the 92nd Air Depot Group of the 5th Air Force.
He worked at Bucyrus-Erie Corporation and in the coal mines in Volant.
He moved to Albion and later to Lake City in 1965, where he resided until recently. While living in Lake City, he worked for American Sterilizer and became an operating engineer for the Operating Engineers Union No. 66.
He loved golfing, fishing and hunting, and he enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Christine L. Rayburg and husband John of Lake City, Connie L. Briggs and husband Jack, and Cindy L. McDonald, all of Girard; two sons, Lauren R. Lydic Jr. and Calvin L. Lydic and wife Airianna, all of Girard; a sister Helen Frederick of Globe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren Jamie Briggs, Lewis McDonald, Chad Rayburg and wife Joanna, Courtney Thieman and husband Todd, Chase Rayburg, Sarah Juarez and husband Leo, Christopher Lydic and Jacob Lydic; five great-grandchildren Devin Thieman, Kayla Thieman, Kevin Dunn, Samantha Dunn and Peter Rayburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Lydic; a son-in-law Mark I. McDonald; a brother, Ladell â€śSpikeâ€ť Lydic; and a grandson, John Robert Rayburg.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard, with the Rev. James Rimmer officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at the Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
