Larry Boyd “Squeak” Smith, 68

Larry Boyd “Squeak” Smith, 68, Canoe Ridge Road, Rossiter died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at home with his loving family.

Born on April 17, 1945, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Virgil and L. Marie (Knisley) Smith.

On Jan. 4, 1965, he married the former Jane Marie Hofman. She survives.

Prior to his retirement in 2007, Larry worked as a coal miner at Greenwich Colliers, he was a mechanic for Murray Ford, Don Vite, Conrad’s, and the Brookville Truck Stop and was a foreman for Whipstock.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, camping, and being a part of the Smokin Joe Band was a highlight of his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Lori (Kerry) Gardner of Marion Center, Judy (Dave) Simmons of Sykesville, Barb Wineberg of Punxsutawney, Larry (Katrina) Smith Jr. of California, Betty Wathall of Texas, Doug (Kristen) Smith of Stoneboro, and Michael (Belinda) Smith of Montana; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faith (Ray) Mincer of Gettysburg and Joy (Skip) Knipple; three brothers, Emery “Pooch” Smith, Vernon “Bunny” (Linda) Smith, and “Pete” Dexter (Cathy) Smith, all of Punxsutawney; and numerous family, friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandchild.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Union Hill Church, co-officiated by John Stockdale and Bob Kinnan.
