BROCKWAY — The Lady Chucks golf team travelled to Brockway Thursday afternoon for a match they knew they would win before they even teed off, as Brockway's team fielded only three girls and was forced to forfeit.

Still, Punxsy head coach Katie Irwin saw lots of promising signs from her players on a course they were unfamiliar with.

"We had a great day," she said. "It was the first time we've ever seen the course at Scottish Heights, and they all played so well. The scores were down where we've wanted to see them all season."

Punxsy, which improved its record to 16-0 on the season (14-0 in AML play), just keeps improving in the score department as the District IX championships approach.

In fact, the Lady Chucks head to Kane today for a practice round at the course where districts will be played.

Punxsy's Lauren Giavedoni scored low-medalist in the Brockway meet with a 46, edging out Brockway's Savannah Brosky's 48 on her home course.

Giavedoni led the Lady Chucks to a team score of 205, its lowest of the season on the course the girls had never played before.

Sarah London was Punxsy's second-best scorer, shooting a 51, and Audrianna Delacour came in just one stroke behind her with a 52.

Punxsy's 205 was rounded out by Caroline Dunkel's 56.

Lauren McGee (59), Julia Martino (62) and Kasey Prescott (64) each turned in impressive scores for the Lady Chucks, as well, despite not being counted in the official score.

Overall, Irwin was proud of the way her girls played, and was excited to see them shifting into high gear for the increased level of competition that lies ahead.

"Several of the girls shot their personal bests today," she said. "I saw the girls focusing on their pre-shot routines. It's really starting to come together for them. I know they're trying to mentally prepare themselves for districts, where we'll be seeing a lot more competition than we've seen during our regular season matches."

After the district practice round today, Punxsy will participate in the district meet Monday in Kane.

Then, the Lady Chucks will continue AML play with meets at Brookville Tuesday and Brockway Thursday.
