CLEARFIELD — After facing each other in both the District IX singles and doubles championships, local rivals Punxsy and DuBois met on the girls' team tennis court on Monday afternoon in Clearfield. The result ended up the same as the two regular season meetings as DuBois' depth was too much for Punxsy, giving it a 5-0 district team title.

"The girls played well tonight," commented Punxsy coach Rose Graffius. "There were some close games. It was a good ending to a great season."

At the top singles, Lady Beavers' district singles champ Kristina Torretti overcame a tough opening set played by Lady Chucks' Amber Ward, 4-6 before finishing the bout, 1-6.

In the second individual match, Punxsy's Lauren Wolfe also had a good first set showing, 3-6, before DuBois' Alisha Torretti bounced back for the second set shutout, 0-6.

In the final singles bout, Kylie Krise gave her own solid effort for the Lady Chucks. Krise dropped the first set, 3-6, to Natalie Newcamp but fell 2-6 in the second set.

Jaelene Burkett and Laura Chelgren of Punxsy faced off against Alaina Anand and Michelle Wenerd of DuBois in the first doubles. The DuBois duo claimed the victory by scores of 1-6 and 2-6. The Lady Chucks did not field a partner for Erin Long at the other doubles matchup to complete the 5-0 District IX title for DuBois.
