ST. MARYS — The Punxsy softball team played one of its most complete games all year during a 6-0 victory over St. Marys Monday night on the road.

The Lady Chucks (7-0) recorded 10 hits, including three triples, and junior Randa Depp provided her finest varsity performance ever to lead Punxsy to a series sweep over its District IX Class AAA rival.

Punxsy was led by Ashley Barenchik, Taylor Powell and Jenna Reitz, who each tallied two hits. Barenchik scored twice and tripled, Powell drove two runners home with a triple and Tia Davis also tripled.

Depp pitched a complete game shutout and allowed three hits with six strikeouts and zero walks.

"That's as good as she's pitched this year by far," Punxsy manger Alan Pifer said. "She was in total control."

Only one St. Marys runner reached third base, and no one from the Lady Dutch made it to second base after that. St. Marys (6-3) had just five base runners all game on three hits and two errors.

Punxsy's defense was also solid behind her, including a play up the middle by shortstop Barenchik that assistant coach Don Powell said was the best he's ever seen.

Punxsy was off to a great start in the first inning when Barenchik singled over the left fielder's head. She scored one batter later on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Neal.

Shawnna Crago reached on a fielder's choice after a Powell single, and Crago made it to third base after two steals. The next batter was Reitz, who singled home Crago.

Reitz started some two-out lightning in the third inning with a single. Next up was Davis, whose triple in the left-center gap scored Reitz.

Punxsy's third two-out hit in a row came from Johnna Depp, who brought home Davis.

Punxsy's final two-run inning came in the fourth. It started with an Allie Shields walk and a bunt single by Barenchik. Once Neal sacrficed both runners up a base, Powell's triple in the right-center gap scored both.

St. Marys' Kelsey Fritz pitched for an injured Rachel Ginter, the team's ace pitcher. Fritz allowed six runs on 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts during seven innings.

The Lady Chucks will head to Brookville for a 4:15 p.m. start today. The Lady Raiders (2-5) lost a doubleheader to DuBois Monday, 12-1 in five innings and 15-1 in six innings.

Punxsy will then head to State College for a 4:30 p.m. start Thursday and will host Clearfield at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

The junior-varsity Lady Chucks (11-1) won a tight one against St. Marys Monday, 7-5. Punxsy trailed 4-0 after the first inning and 5-4 through five innings before it won with a three-run sixth.
