CLEARFIELD — Winning can either be exciting and high scoring or lower scoring and methodical.

After racing past rival Brookville last Thursday, Punxsy grinded out a road victory, 39-29, over Clearfield on Monday night in Clearfield.

“It was a grind-out game. We didn’t shoot the ball well from the perimeter but we played very good defense and had very good ball pressure,” noted Lady Chucks coach Randy Reitz. “We also did a very nice job on Clearfield’s big girls.”

Alyssa Reitz held the hot shooting touch on the night for the Lady Chucks (3-2). The sophomore point guard drained three triples and added two more buckets for a game-high 13-point night.

Jensen Constantino added three baskets for her seven-point effort.

Shaina Painter contributed five points, while both Taylor Newcome and Ally Fye had four points apiece.

Emily Horner netted three points. Ashley Reitz put in one basket, with Anna Horner making a foul shot.

Clearfield received 13 points from center Dakota Farmery.

Punxsy won each quarter of Monday night’s contest. Following an opening 12-10 quarter, the Lady Chucks added to their lead with a 12-7 second quarter for a 24-17 intermission tally.

Leading 32-23 after three frames, Punxsy ran the difference to 13 points before finishing the contest with the 10-point win, 39-29.

In the junior varsity contest, Punxsy remained perfect on the year with a 54-20 going away win over Clearfield.

Emma White and Hope Bridge each produced 16 points to lead the JV Lady Chucks.

Ivy Ferko also found double figures with 11 points.

After a sluggish 6-5 first quarter, the JV Lady Chucks won the second quarter, 12-4, for an 18-9 halftime lead.

Punxsy extended the margin to 20 points, 35-15, at the end of the third frame. The Lady Chucks raced home with a 23-5 final seven minutes for the 54-20 final.

Returning home on Wednesday night, Punxsy will host DuBois Central Catholic, starting at 6 p.m.
