PUNXSUTAWNEY — If a tennis team allows the opponent eight total games in eight matches, the chances are good for a win. The Lady Chucks gave up those eight games on their way to cruising past the Lady Owls of Bradford, 8-1, Tuesday afternoon.

"The PAHS girls played well tonight," noted Punxsy coach Rose Graffius.

And played well they did from top to bottom. At the top singles, the Lady Chucks' Amber Ward took care of the Lady Owls' Nicole Henderson, 6-2 and 6-0.

Lauren Wolfe added another easy win, 6-0, 6-1 over Bradford's Hannah Burgoon at number two. Ward and Wolfe combined to defeat their same singles foes, Henderson and Burgoon, by an 8-1 first doubles final.

The third and fourth Punxsy singles players, Kylie Krise and Jaelene Burkett produced similar results. At number three, Krise gave up just one game, 6-0 and 6-1, to the Lady Owls' Ashley Stoltz. Burkett posted one better with a 6-0 and 6-0 shutout of visiting Mary Schroll. In second doubles, Krise teamed with Erin Long to shut out Bradford's Amelia Fowler and Jennifer Ruffner, 8-0.

Burkett and Laura Chelgren produced a third blanking of the day, 8-0, over Lady Owls' Sara Potter and Katelyn Wells for the third doubles pairing.

Long battled Bradford's Ashley Stone in the lone close bout. Long breezed, 6-1, in the first set only to see Stone claim the second set by the same, 1-6, score. Stone was able to keep the momentum to take the super tiebreaker, 10-2, in the third set for the lone Lady Owls' win.

Punxsy will next host Johnsonburg at the Punxsutawney High School courts on Thursday starting at 3:30 p.m.
