Keith "Kip" Duane Snyder, Sr., 86
Keith "Kip" Duane Snyder, Sr., 86, of Punxsutawney, died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Shadyside Hospital, with his family by his side.
Keith was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Timblin, a son of the late Elvin Sidney and Agnes Mae (Engle) Snyder.
He was a graduate of the class of 1943 at Punxsutawney High School.
He then attended California State Teachers’ College until his commencement in 1947.
Mr. Snyder served in the United States Navy during World War II.
On Dec. 26, 1949, he married Lois Romayne Martz. She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1974.
At the start of his career, he worked as a teacher of Industrial Arts at
Punxsutawney High School and later became the sole proprietor of the
Punxsutawney Bus Company and Jefferson Insurance.
However, farming was truly his favorite profession.
Mr. Snyder was a man of genuine concern for numerous causes, supporting many organizations over the years.
He was also a member of many such associations, including the John W. Jenks Masonic Lodge No. 534, Coudersport Consistory, Jaffa Shrine (Past Potentate 1979), Jefferson County Shrine Club and ATC Unit and Altoona Jester's Court No. 70 (Past Director 1989), among others.
He is survived by five children, Rita (Bruno) Zenone of Greensburg and Keith D. Snyder, Jr., Jacque (Randy) Perry, Dina (Chris) Kopas and Kerran Snyder, all of Punxsutawney; nine grandchildren, Amanda (Chris) Cook, Chris Zenone, Jesse DeChurch IV, Thad Perry, Leif (Kara) Perry, Brittney (Aaron) Felix, Danikka Kopas, Braydn Kopas and Damon Dale Snyder; five brothers, Howard Snyder, Elvin "Scrap" (Dot) Snyder, Kenneth (Pat) Snyder, Wayne (Carol) Snyder and Rick (Abby) Snyder; and four sisters, Lois Gaston, Faye (Harold) Birckbichler, Margie Hall and Shirley Harmon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and four brothers, Robert, Leon (“Rudy”), Glenn and an infant.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at the funeral home.
A private interment will follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Ringgold.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Snyder's memory to Shriner's Hospital for Children, St. James Lutheran Cemetery or to the Timblin Cemetery Association.
