January 3, 2014

Karen L. (Kerns) Gaston, 65, of San Pedro Calif., formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday night, Dec. 30, 2013, in her home.

She passed away the way she lived her life, with strength and dignity.

After a six-year struggle after having three brain aneurysms and a year and three months of pancreatic cancer, she passed peacefully without any pain or suffering.

She was born to Andrew and Helena Kerns on April 5, 1948, in Punxsutawney.

Karen graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1966.

She married Christian J. Gaston Jr. on May, 9, 1970, and they lived together in California for 43 years.

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Christian Jacob Gaston Jr., and her two loving children, twins Nicole Danielle Gaston (30) and Christian Andrew Gaston (30).

She is also survived by her mother, Helena Kerns (95), of Punxsutawney; her sister, Cheryl Kerns of California; and her two brothers, Rick Kerns of Punxsutawney and Randy Kerns of California.

She has been an inspiration to all of us, and she will be missed dearly and will never be forgotten.

The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Vesper Hospice in Karen’s name.

The address is Vesper Hospice, 675 S. Arroyo Parkway, Suite 300, Pasadena, CA 91101.
