Joyce Hughes, 80, of Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital in Punxsutawney.

She was born May 24, 1932, in Harpursville, N.Y., a daughter of Reuel and Georgia (Starbird) Smith.

She was married August 28, 1954, in Harpursville, N.Y., to John H. Hughes, who survives.

She attended Cornell University.
She was a homemaker.

She was a strong believer in education and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney and was very active in various committees.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Keith Hughes and wife Jean of Punxsutawney, Kevin Hughes and wife Valerie of Punxsutawney, and Kirk Hughes of Versailles, Ky.; and by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Leigh Hughes.

A memorial service will be held at the Punxsutawney Presbyterian Church at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

The family requests that donations in memory of Joyce be made to the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney, Pa., or to the charity of the donor's choice.
