Joseph P. Matts, Jr., 65, South State Street, DuBois, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Shadyside in Pittsburgh.

Born Aug. 20, 1948, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Matts, Sr. and Anna M. (Maloney) Matts.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War.

On Oct. 5, 1973, he married Sylvia M. (Cilladi) Matts. She survives.

He retired from Brockway Glass after 28 years of service.

Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.

He was also a member of the United States Air Force Association. He was an avid reader and loved the performing arts.

He is survived by three daughters, Gina M. Gray and husband Trent of Hazelton, Pa., Jennifer A. Sprague and husband Andrew of Olympia, Wash., and Kathryn L. Matts and fiancé John E. Sharp of DuBois; two sons, Joseph R. Matts of DuBois and Thomas J. Matts and girlfriend Elaine Kotzbauer of Yulee, Fla; a sister, Mary Ellen Matts of Fort Thomas, Ky.; three brothers, William Matts of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Francis Matts and Edward Matts, both of Punxsutawney; and five grandchildren, Tommy, Elizabeth, Sandra, Ian and Sara.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Fr. Thomas Matts, and an infant sister.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home in DuBois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Daniel Kresinski as celebrant.

Full military honors will be accorded from the church by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.

Burial will be at St. Tobias Cemetery.
