Joseph C. "Joe" Woodarek, 68, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mr. Woodarek was born July 4, 1942, in Salamanca, N.Y., a son of the late Carl and Vanadene (Shields) Woodarek.

He was married to Elizabeth J. (Colgan) Woodarek, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Mr. Woodarek was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired employee from the CSX Railroad, where he worked as a conductor.

He was a member of the Punxsutawney American Legion Post 62 and the Punxsutawney F.O.E. 1231.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a son, Daniel L. Rankin and wife Amanda of New Kensington; a daughter, Liz Rankin of Punxsutawney; a brother, Robert Woodarek and wife Charlotte of Olean, N.Y.; a sister, Carla Prieur and husband Randy of Bemus Point, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Janessa Roy, Isaac Roy and Owen Rankin; four nieces; and two nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Woodarek.

A blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, with Fr. Lawrence Manchos officiating.

Interment will be at Copenhaver Crossroad Cemetery.
