John Reed, 59

John Reed, 59, of Reynoldsville, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at his sister’s home in Punxsutawney.

John was born in Kileen, Texas, on Jan. 13, 1955, the son of Frederick Maxwell Reed and Ruby Arlene Lougee.

As a steel block late-model racecar driver, he often found his way to the front of the pack among the roar of engines and cheering crowds.

For more than 40 years of being behind the wheel of the red, white and blue No. 9, John drew loyal fans to Hummingbird Speedway and Marion Center Speedway.

John was a shop foreman at Jefferson Paving Inc. for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carol (Hetrick) Reed; one sister, Deborah Boddorf (David) of Punxsutawney; three nephews, Joshua Hamilton of Pittsburgh, Michael Reed of Strattanville and David Reed of Pittsburgh; and one great-nephew, Derek Reed of Strattanville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George “Randy” Reed.

Visitation at the Bernard Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at the Moore Cemetery in Pine Creek Township.
