John R. Kennis, 91

John R. Kennis, 91, Henderson Township, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at his residence following a short illness.

He was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Soldier, Pa., a son of the late Peter Kennis Sr. and Mary (Gilga) Kennis.

May 4, 1946, he married Ora Mae Shepler Kennis, who survives.

Mr. Kennis was a dairy farmer and a laborer for Interstate Amesite.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville.

He had a love of land.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Sally) Long of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Ryan Opdyke and wife Ana of Laurel, Md., and Megan Long of Mechanicsburg; two great-grandchildren, McKenna and Logan Opdyke of Laurel, Md.; and a brother, Peter G. Kennis Jr. of DuBois.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Michael and Paul; and two sisters, Mary Zimmerman and Margaret Kennis.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in Sykesville.

Parastas will be held at 2 p.m. today, and Panachida will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home.

A Divine Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville, with Father
Robert Yetsko T.O.R., officiating.

Interment will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park.

Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 12268, Newport News, VA 23612.
