John M. Reken, 85

John M. Reken, 85, Home, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011.

He was born July 10, 1926, in Beyer, a son of the late John and Ann (Ocel) Reken.

Jan. 31, 1953, he married Helen (Beresnyak) Reken, who survives.
They celebrated 56 years of marriage together.

He served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Dayton Sportsmen's Club, Sagamore VFW, William Penn Assoc. and UMWA Local 1619. He enjoyed the outdoors.

Mr. Reken worked as a farmer and also as a coal miner for 42 years, working for the North American Coal Co.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two sons, J. Alan Reken and wife Kelly of Smicksburg, and David J. Reken and wife Sally of Saratoga, N.Y.; two grandsons, Austin Reken and Gavin Reken; a granddaughter, Allison Reken; a brother, Andy Reken of Dayton; four sisters, Pauline Renosky of Elderton, Helen Petrosky of Sharon, Frances Fye of Sykesville and Olga Marshall of Beyer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Roseann; two brothers, Joseph and Michael Reken; and three sisters, Mary, Margaret and Ann Patuc.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Yatesboro, with Fr. Daniel L. Blout officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sagamore.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Carson/Boyer Funeral Home, Inc, Rural Valley.
