John M. McMillen, 92

John M. McMillen, 92, Marion Center, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He was born in 1918 in South Mahoning Township, a son of the late Samuel A. and Emma (Martin) McMillen.

He was married to his wife of 63 years, Helen M. Plyler McMillen, who survives.

Mr. McMillen was a member of the Punxsutawney Alliance Church for 63 years, having served as elder and a board member for more than 30 years.

For 35 years, he was a director with the Indiana County Conservation District, and was named district director emeritus.

Mr. McMillen was also past president of the Indiana County Cooperative Extension, a 4-H leader, a charter member of the Indiana County PA Farm Bureau, and received awards from the many agricultural organizations with which he was involved.

He was a life time self-employed dairy farmer on a “Century Farm” in Rayne Township. In his retirement, he was active in agriculture seed sales.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include five children, Connie Spidell and husband Gary of Home, Sharon Wild and husband Donald of Great Valley, N.Y., William McMillen and wife Karen of Marion Center, Robert McMillen and wife Judith of Palmyra, and Julie Anne Spencer and husband Brian of Indiana; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers and three sisters, Howard, Richard, Mary Minser, Ruth Harman and Jane Brocious.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Punxsutawney Alliance Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Pastor John Buchman officiating.

Private interment will be made in the Marion Center Cemetery.
