John Levy, 79

John Levy, 79, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.

He was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Reynoldsville, a son of the late Ben and Julia (Redding) Levy.

On Nov. 24, 1955, he married Rita (Johns) Levy, who survives.

He was a veteran of the US Army and served overseas.

He was the co-owner of Jefferson Wholesale Grocery Company, where he worked his entire life.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, billiards, reading the Bible, watching movies and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Elks, the Eagles and the Punxsutawney Country Club, and he served on the board of directors of the Salvation Army.

He was the beloved husband of Rita of Punxsutawney and loving father of Rick Levy and wife Sonia of Punxsutawney and Beth (Levy) Wright and husband Brian of Enola, PA.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by five grandchildren, Sage and Spencer Levy of Punxsutawney, and Piper, Austin and Logan Wright of Enola, PA; a brother, Sam Levy of Punxsutawney; two sisters, Diane (Levy) Perry and Ruth (Levy) Jacobson and husband David of Missoula, Montana; and twelve nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney with Pastor Robert Bish officiating. Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Levy, can be made to the First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney, Christ the King Manor in DuBois, the Punxsutawney Community Center or the Smile Train.
