John Lee Heckman, 59

John Lee Heckman, 59, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at home.

He was born Dec. 30, 1952, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Albert Charles and Constance Hope (Teats) Heckman.

He had previously worked at Matson Lumber and Elbel’s Produce Farm.

His enjoyment in life was spending time with his daughter Hope, making homemade soup called “Dough,” having Sunday dinners and visiting his family and friends.

He loved his dog Lizzy.

He was a content man who enjoyed what he had, and he also liked woodworking and gardening.

Surviving relatives include a son, John Lee “Buddy” Heckman; a daughter, Hope Marie Heckman of Punxsutawney; a grandson, Dustin Zurenda; two brothers, David Bruce Heckman of Knox Dale and Mike Heckman and wife Delanne of Erie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tim and Rick Heckman; and two sisters, Barb Heckman and Brenda Meneely.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Doug Wolfe.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Big Run.
