John Edward Kline, 73, of Brookville, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at McKinley Health Center.
He was born Dec. 8, 1937, in Brookville, a son of the late Bernard â€śBunâ€ť and Kathryn (Baker) Kline.
June 17, 1961, he married Helen Esther Reed, who preceded him in death Nov. 17, 2008.
He served in the U. S. Army.
Mr. Kline worked as diesel shop foreman for the Pittsburgh Shawmut Railroad.
He helped start the â€śHit and Miss Engine Society,â€ť which later became the Coolspring Power Museum.
He was previously the Jefferson County fire marshal and a member of the Pine Creek Township Fire Company.
He was active in amateur radio and helped with the Jefferson County Communication Center, which later became 911.Â
Mr. Kline was formerly a member of the Masonic Hobah Lodge.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Deborah Bates of Atlanta, Ga., and Brenda Kline of Pine Mountain, Ga.; a son, Michael Kline and fiancĂ© Tracy Finnefrock of Brookville; five grandchildren, Archie Hilton, Brandy Sarvey, April Stevens, and John and Robert Kline; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Francis Kline of Virginia.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at the Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Brookville.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, Â at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Ray Baker.
