John Clair Woods Sr., 73

John Clair Woods Sr., 73, Rossiter, died Monday, May 28, 2012, at home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1937, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late John Allen and Edith May (Oaks) Woods.

July 15, 1967, he married the former Lillian Jane Hill, who survives.

Mr. Woods was a member of the Faith Fellowship Church.

He was also a member of the Rossiter American Legion.

Mr. Woods worked as a tree trimmer for Penn Lines and Asplundh. In recent years, he was a driver for the Amish.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and in his younger days, he was a boxer in New York.

His greatest enjoyment was his family and having Sunday dinners with them.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include three children, Brenda Deyarmin and husband Arthur “D” of Glen Campbell, John Clair Woods Jr. and wife Marci of Punxsutawney, and Robert Allan Woods and wife Marlene of Rossiter; five grandchildren, Leslie, Vanessa and Blake Deyarmin and Carlie and Owen Woods; a great-grandchild, Kylie Chigas; a brother, Edger Woods of Rossiter; and three sisters, Dolores Rowan of DuBois, Helen Yeager of Indiana and Erma Astorino of Punxsutawney.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton and Delmont Woods; a sister, Ruth Carnahan; and a grandson, Randy Deyarmin.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor Clifford Vos officiating.

Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, Rossiter.
