John “Andy” Todd, 90

July 26, 2011

John “Andy” Todd, 90, passed from this life Sunday, July 24, 2011.

He was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Jefferson County, a son of the late John H. and Edna Lingenfelter Todd.

Mr. Todd served in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in various stateside locations and on the island of Tinian until December 1945.
While in Great Bend, Kan., Mr. Todd met Arlene Notestine. After the war, he returned to Burdett, Kan., and they wed Jan. 25, 1946. She preceded him in death.

He worked at Shank Brothers in Burdett for more than 40 years. He was also an active member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion.

Mr. Todd was well-known as an avid bike rider, riding at least 10 miles in all 50 states and several thousand miles across Kansas and Missouri.  Even at the age of 89, his goal was to average 100 miles a month.

He was gifted with a fine memory and loved to tell stories of his childhood and wartime. His family called him the “Todd family historian.”

He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Todd and wife Earlene in Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren, Melissa Todd of Springfield, Mo., and Paul Todd; three sisters, Janet Mahan of Warren, Louise Benson and husband Carl of Punxsutawney, and Vira Bines and husband Richard of Leeper; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Todd of Salem, N.J.
