JOC shuffles around idea of iPads for students

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP — The Jeff Tech Operating Committee (JOC) continued its discussion on the purchasing of iPads for Jeff Tech students.

Sherry Hasselman, business manager, asked the JOC if it would like to proceed with sending a formal letter to the DuBois Educational Foundation for assistance in purchasing iPads for Jeff Tech students.

Dr. Fred Park, committee member, said he would like to take a look at all of the options being considered for the iPad initiative.

Bob Wachob, technology teacher, said the DuBois Educational Foundation is a process, where students could purchase an iPad through a special fundraising program.

"It's the same fundraising techniques that they use at DuBois Central Catholic and SS.C.D. Elementary School in Punxsy and at Penn State DuBois, as well," Wachob said, adding that the students can go to a website and purchase gift cards to be used at various businesses around the area and that purchases go toward the students’ own personal account.

He said the Catholic schools use it toward tuition, whereas Jeff Tech would use it toward funds for the students to raise their own money to purchase the iPads.

"So, instead of 'Bring Your Own Device' it is 'Buy Your Own Device," Wachob said.
