Jerry Wymer Sr., 76

Jerry Wymer Sr., 76, of Big Run, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mr. Wymer was born Oct. 9, 1936, in Killbuck, New York, a son of the late Raymond Sr. and Ardetia (Crandell) Wymer.

He was a member of the St. Phillips United Methodist Church in Big Run.

Mr. Wymer served in the United States Army.

On Feb. 9, 1963, he married the former Marion Lee Reiter. She survives.

Jerry worked as manager at Western Union Telegraph, on the B&O Railroad as a carpenter, and retired as a janitor for the Punxsutawney Area School District.

He loved his wife and children very much.

He enjoyed gardening, soaking in the sunshine, driving a shiny mustang car, singing, bowling, cooking, ice skating, tennis, golf, and collecting things.

Jerry liked to help people without them knowing who had helped them.

He went above and beyond in doing things for others, asking nothing in return.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Mark Wymer of Big Run, Beverly Burkett of Big Run, Michael Wymer and wife Lisa of Punxsutawney, Major James Wymer, currently serving in Afghanistan, and wife Trisha of Hummelstown, Jerry Wymer Jr. and wife Kathy of Big Run, and Lois Kerr and husband Jeremy of Punxsutawney; eleven grandchildren, Sonya Beatty and husband John, Nicholas Burkett, Amanda Overly and husband A.J., Hannah Burkett, Brock, Zachary, Kyrsten, Devyn, Kaleb and Kyle Wymer, and Peyton Kerr; one brother, Jack Wymer and wife Janette of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Janice “Buddy” Chamberlain of Allegany, New York; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Rob Burkett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fran, Raymond Jr. and Gene Wymer; and three sisters, infant Margaret, Marilyn Lucas and Margaret MacMillen.

There will be no viewing. Friends will be received from Noon until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big 
Run.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home officiated by Pastor John Kerr.
